How does Diapro MR 30mg Tablet work?

Indication of Diapro MR 30mg Tablet

Gliclazide is an oral anti-diabetic medicine used in the treatment of type 2 Diabetes mellitus (high levels of sugar in the blood). It helps in controlling blood sugar levels and prevents complications of diabetes such as blindness, kidney damage, stroke (reduced blood supply to your brain), and heart attack. 

Missed Dose & Overdose of Gliclazide

• If you missed a dose of Gliclazide, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
• Never take more than the prescribed dose of Gliclazide. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine, go to the nearest emergency medical department/hospital.

Dosage & Administration of Diapro MR 30mg Tablet

Film-Coated Tablets:

• Initial Dose: 40 to 80 mg daily, can be increased up to 320 mg daily in divided doses as needed.
• Administration: Take before meals. Not suitable for children with juvenile-onset diabetes.

Modified Release (MR) Preparation:

• Daily Dose: One to four tablets (maximum 120 mg) taken once daily at breakfast. The dose is based on blood and urine sugar levels and must be determined by a doctor.
• Administration: Take with water, do not chew or crush tablets. Always eat a meal after taking the tablets.
• Missed Dose: Take the next dose at the usual time; do not double the dose.
• Overdose: Seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of overdose include hypoglycemia, which can be managed by consuming sugar and a substantial meal.

Combination Therapy:

• With Other Medications: The doctor will determine proper doses when combined with metformin, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, thiazolidinediones, DPP-4 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, or insulin.

Interaction

• Increased Hypoglycemic Effect: When taken with other antidiabetics, certain antibiotics, blood pressure medications, antifungals, ulcer medications, depression treatments, painkillers, antirheumatics, and alcohol.
• Decreased Hypoglycemic Effect: When taken with medications for CNS disorders, inflammation, asthma/labor, breast disorders, or St. John's Wort.
• Potential Blood Glucose Disturbances: With fluoroquinolones, especially in elderly patients.
• Increased Effect of Blood Clotting Reducers: Such as warfarin.

Do Not Use If:

• Allergic to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas.
• Insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1).
• Diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma.
• Severe kidney or liver disease.
• Taking medications for fungal infections.
• Breastfeeding.

• Pregnancy: Not recommended. Consult a doctor before use.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.

Precautions & Warnings

• Monitoring: Regular blood and urine sugar level monitoring is necessary.

• Stress Situations: This may require a temporary switch to insulin therapy.
